Vision for Volunteering launch

The Vision for Volunteering is a national collaboration led by Sport England, NAVCA, Volunteering Matters, the Association of Volunteer Managers and NCVO.

Having heard from hundreds of organisations and stakeholders, we’re preparing to launch the Vision at the Volunteer Expo Live at the NEC Birmingham, and we’d love you to join us. To find out more about the event, including how to book tickets, read on to the next section.

If you can’t make it to the in-person launch in Birmingham, we’re running an online event on 10 May. Book your place for free.

Volunteer Expo Live

The UK’s national volunteering show is coming to the NEC Birmingham on 6–7 May 2022. Volunteer Expo Live is the only event of its kind, bringing organisations and volunteers together. This is a must-visit event for anyone working or volunteering across the voluntary sector.

NCVO is proud to be a charity partner of the event, which includes the launch of the Vision for Volunteering, speaker sessions with celebrity campaigners and volunteer heroes, interactive workshops, networking opportunities and more. Your organisation can be part of the action, with lots of exhibitor opportunities available. Book your free visitor tickets now and we’ll see you there!

Volunteers’ Week 1–7 June

Volunteers have been invaluable in responding to the challenges presented throughout the pandemic. That’s why this year’s theme for Volunteers’ Week is ‘a time to say thanks’.

With just two months to go, we hope you’re planning how you’ll celebrate everything your volunteers have achieved over the last two years, and thank those who usually volunteer but haven’t been able to do so during the pandemic.

Royal Voluntary Service Platinum Champion Awards

The Platinum Champions Awards are an official jubilee project run by Royal Voluntary Service to recognise UK volunteers.

There are seven categories of award and volunteers will receive a special commemorative pin and a certificate signed by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall. Seventy of the most outstanding champions will also get to join the official jubilee celebrations in London on the weekend of 5 June.

Nominations close on 10 April. Find out more or nominate a volunteer.

European Volunteering Capital 2024

NCVO is a member of the Centre for European Volunteering (CEV). CEV is inviting cities and towns to apply to win the title of European Capital of Volunteering 2024. CEV has produced this communications toolkit to bring volunteering organisations and local authorities together to apply.

Nominations close on 3 June, and the winner will be announced on International Volunteer Day on 5 December. If you’d like to know more about the competition, email Gabriella Civico, the director of CEV.

Age Friendly Inclusive Volunteering

We’re delighted to share that we’ll be partnering with the Centre for Ageing Better to help deliver their Age Friendly Inclusive Volunteering programme. We’re seeking organisations and volunteers across England to be part of an advisory group and will be kicking off with an online workshop on the afternoon of 28 April.

Investing in Volunteers

Investing in Volunteers (IiV) is the UK-wide standard that helps you improve how you manage your volunteers. It’s an externally verified award, led by the UK Volunteering Forum, and covers six quality areas for improving a volunteer’s journey with you.

The UK Volunteering Forum oversees IiV. It recently refreshed the standard to encompass a broader interpretation of volunteering in relation to:

strategy
impact and equity
diversity and inclusion.

Safeguarding essentials in charities

The next date for our online safeguarding essentials in charities course is 21 April, 10.00–15.00.

Strategic planning: Processes and tools for direction and decision making

Has the pandemic prompted you to rethink your strategy? We’re offering a one-day online course to help on 18 May, 10.00–15.30.

Volunteers and the law

We’ve refreshed our online training course on volunteers and the law to address issues emerging from the pandemic. We’re offering this on 14 June, 14.00-17.00

Good practice in volunteer management

Our popular online good practice in volunteer management course takes place over two half days from 10.00–13.00. You need to attend both days as they’re two parts of one course.
