The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has launched its new strategy, setting out a long-term commitment to create the conditions for civil society to thrive.
At a time when charities are navigating rising demand, financial uncertainty and rapid technological change, our new strategy reflects the evolving needs and priorities of the sector.
The strategy was developed by one of the most extensive engagement exercises in our history, drawing on more than 800 contributions from across the sector.
Members, partners, funders, staff and sector leaders all played a part in shaping its direction. These insights set out what organisations say they need most: a stronger voice, better connections, trusted evidence, clearer representation and practical support.
At its heart is a simple but ambitious purpose: to strengthen civil society's resilience, connection and influence so organisations can deliver impact now and for generations to come.
The strategy sets out four interconnected drivers that will guide the work over the coming years:
Kate Lee, Chief Executive, said:
"Civil society is one of the UK's greatest strengths. Every day I see the difference it makes, bringing people together, strengthening communities and driving the social change that we so urgently need. It is at the heart of creating conditions for a fairer, more prosperous society. Yet despite all this, its value is too often underestimated, and it is operating under increasing pressure. This matters deeply, because when civil society is stretched, it’s communities who feel it most.
This strategy is our commitment to stand alongside civil society, to help it become more resilient, more connected and more influential than ever before."
Jude Sheeran, Chair designate, said:
“NCVO’s new strategy aims to address the immediate challenges of our sector while helping to build a stronger civil society in the longer term. Charities and voluntary organisations play a vital role for an increasingly large part of society, and it is imperative that we do everything possible to create the conditions required for them to succeed. We will not rest until our sector is financially and operationally resilient, deeply connected, and influential among the decision makers that we and those we serve depend on.
