Safeguarding

Safeguarding and keeping people safe should be a priority for all organisations.

Information and guidance

In 2019 NCVO and partners updated the safeguarding guidance we offer on Knowhow to include a wide range of resources.

Here are some starting points to suit different needs.

Training

Organisations should review their safeguarding training regularly. You can use planning safeguarding training to help you understand how to choose and review training.

NCVO offer training on safeguarding for volunteer managers, trustees and senior managers delivered regularly at NCVO in London or bespoke at your premises.

These courses we run regularly all include content related to safeguarding.

If our courses don’t suit your needs or timings we have a list of training offered by NCVO’s trusted suppliers and our partners in the 2019 safeguarding project. This covers face to face and online opportunities and a wide range of subjects.

Support, audits, reviews and other consultancy

When developing or reviewing your safeguarding policies and procedures, it can be helpful to have external support. Our local and national support page on Knowhow features NCVO project partners and trusted suppliers who can provide that support and discusses how you might use it best.

Charity Ethical Principles

Safeguarding is just one element of keeping people safe. NCVO has worked with partners to develop the Charity Ethical Principles. These principles support charities, their governing bodies, and those who work and volunteer in and with them in recognising and resolving ethical issues and conflicts and make charities a safer place.
