Small charity helpdesk

92% of our members are small charities. Supporting you is a vital part of our work.

We answer 300-500 enquiries a month, mostly from small charities. You can ask us questions about setting up or running your charity or voluntary organisation.

Our friendly practical support team aim to:

  • find the answer to your question in our online help and guidance
  • provide you with any further relevant and accessible information
  • signpost you to a trusted provider if we can’t answer your question.

Thank you. As a trustee of a small charity, it's reassuring to have access to information that is understandable and useable for us.

What we can help with

We respond to thousands of enquiries every year. Our team helps small charities and voluntary organisations make a bigger difference to their communities.

Trustees, staff and volunteers ask us things like:

  • where can we go to advertise for new trustees?
  • what steps do we need to take to set up a charity?
  • where can we go to get funding for our charity?
  • what policies or procedures do we need to have in place as a newly registered charity?

What we can’t help with

We know that running a charity can be very demanding, both emotionally and interpersonally.

Our practical support team can direct you to online resources and external partners to help with interpersonal matters. However, they can’t get involved in individual disputes.

For these types of enquiries, we recommend the following resources.

Thank you so much for your assistance and for all of the links you have sent me to signpost our way through what has been a difficult time.
