Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses is a vibrant community garden situated in the centre of Brockwell Park.  The BPCG charity is committed to enabling a diverse range of local residents, schools and visitors to increase their knowledge, improve their wellbeing and to create greener communities.  Our one-acre site is a thriving hub of volunteering activities and educational initiatives.

We are currently looking for a Volunteer Treasurer to help us manage the finances of our charity and to sit on our board of Trustees.


  • Manage charity’s banking, acting as the key account holder.  Maintain the charity’s bank mandate.  Undertake monthly bank reconciliation. Maintenance of the charities PayPal account and key account holder.
  • Ensuring the Quickbooks finance system is used effectively by the team:  overseeing the generation of numbered sales invoices by staff; filing receipts; and, monitoring the aged debtors.   
  • Payroll management. Run payroll on a monthly basis using the Quick books system to generate payslips and pay staff. Operate HMRC registration and Rti software and submit HMRC returns and payments.  Create and submit returns to our pension provider.
  • Produce monthly Management Accounts against YTD.  Show actual performance against budgets, advising trustees and director on budget setting and performance reporting.  Annually compile and publish annual final accounts and reports.  Provide all information for independent audit.  Ensure submission of final accounts to Companies House and Charity Commission.
  • Monitor and assess Reserves and compile report quarterly.
  • Ensure financial compliance and governance.
  • Attend and report to quarterly Finance Meetings, some of the 6 Trustees meetings and the Annual General Meeting.
  • Set up and Administer Gift Aid for the charity.

Experience required: candidate should be able to show experience of most of the following:

  • Book-keeping for a charity or business
  • Payroll management
  • Submission of HMRC returns for a charity or business
  • Production of budgets and management reports
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks Accounting system, or the ability to learn this easily

Skills and attributes

  • Self-motivated and highly organised
  • Willing to volunteer for approximately 3-4 days per month


This voluntary position requires a commitment of up to 4 days spread over a month – to be done for the most part at any time of day. However, an ability to do a small part of this during normal office hours would be very useful. The voluntary treasurer would also be expected to attend quarterly finance meetings with the Director, the annual AGM and some of the 6 Trustee meetings in the year.
