Strategy

This page is free to all

Strategy can be seen as a means of mobilising an organisation to get to its future.

The board has an important role in the overview of and development of your organisation's strategy in partnership with staff and volunteers.

Once established the board needs to make sure there are appropriate goals and milestones in place to track progress toward a strategy. Boards need to monitor and seek evidence that the strategy is making the desired impact.

This work involves making sure the strategy:

  • aligns with the charity's purpose and is for the public benefit
  • is something the board is actively involved in developing and not just agreeing
  • has clear objectives and goals agreed by the board which provide milestones for progress
  • and impact can be understood by the organisation and the board has demonstrated how
  • and strategic priorities are discussed and evaluated as part of the board’s agenda.
