Trustees' Week

Trustees’ Week is an annual event showcasing the great work of the 700,000 volunteer charity trustees who run charities in England and Wales. As an organising partner NCVO is delighted to play a role in supporting the campaign.

Trustees are volunteers who take on ultimate legal, strategic and oversight responsibility for an organisation’s work. They play a vital leadership role in any charity, giving up their time to ensure organisations are sustainable, well managed and deliver impact for the beneficiaries and communities they exist to serve.

Trustees’ Week is an opportunity to highlight the excellent work of trustees, support boards to improve governance and encourage new people to consider trusteeship and volunteering opportunities.

At NCVO we use Trustees’ Week to:

  • profile the support we offer to trustees by allowing free access to all our online governance resources and discounts on our training
  • inspire improved governance though thought-provoking content across the week addressing some of the key challenges faced by boards
  • showcase trusteeship, to encourage more people from diverse backgrounds to consider becoming trustees.

NCVO Trustee Conference

Our annual Trustee Conference took place on Monday 5 November 2018. If you were unable to attend on the day then don’t worry, you can catch up on all of the discussion on the hashtag #trusteeconf.

You can also view and download the conference slides from the day and watch our interviews with session speakers below on a range of selected topics. Throughout the week on Twitter we will be sharing these interviews and posting profiles of trustees who attended on the day.

Support for trustees

Training and resources to support good governance.

New governance wheel diagnostic tool

We have launched a revamped version of our governance wheel diagnostic tool for trustee boards which links to the new Charity Governance Code published last year. It is a simple tool that helps boards quickly get a sense of how well they are functioning and gives a visual impression of the shape that a board is in.

Resources for trustees

Ongoing support across the year

Across the year we offer a whole range of support to trustees. This includes:

  • Our Knowhow resources, tools and guidance. Which includes online training and practical templates to support with effective governance.
  • Sign up for our email updates and we’ll email you the latest news and support for trustees, including Dan Francis’ monthly governance round-up.
  • Consultancy and training, we offer specialist training and consultancy on governance all year round and our team would be very happy to discuss your organisations requirements.

Profiles and blogs

Guest writers contributed to our blog on topics including how to upskill boards and why charity sector professionals should consider becoming trustees.

We want to share trustee stories and highlight their experiences both to recognise the contribution trustees make and to champion their contributions and to help motivate those interested in becoming a trustee.

Becoming and recruiting trustees

If you want to be a trustee then we have loads of sources of advice and potential opportunities.

We also have lots of advice on finding trustees for your board

Our Step on Board programme which supports corporate employees to join charity boards is also inviting NCVO members to express an interest in being matched with prospective trustees.
