PQASSO is a user-friendly quality assurance system designed to help you run your organisation more effectively and efficiently. It sets out what organisations need to have in place to ensure sound governance practices, financial and risk management procedures, and a robust system for measuring outcomes.

It offers a flexible approach to quality assurance, allowing your organisation to work at its own pace.

Implementing PQASSO means:

  • more effective and more efficient organisational systems and procedures
  • better quality of service for users
  • better communication and increased motivation among staff, board members and volunteers
  • greater credibility and legitimacy with funders
  • new perspectives and ways of working
  • organisational learning
  • continuous improvement.

What’s involved?

The PQASSO journey consists of two processes:

  • implementation through self-assessment
  • external assesment and award.

You implement PQASSO using an online self-assessment tool that helps your organisation to take a systematic look at what you do, identify areas where you are doing well and not so well, and decide exactly where improvements are needed. It helps you to plan, budget and allocate resources for making these improvements over a realistic time period.

Implementing PQASSO usually takes anything from three months to over a year, depending on the size and capacity of your organisation. The number of systems and procedures you have in place will also affect how quickly you can work.

Once you have implemented PQASSO, you can demonstrate this by achieving the PQASSO Quality Mark, the external award for PQASSO users. Achieving the award gives funders a clear indication of the quality of your work, and can help you successfully bid for public sector contracts.

If you decide to apply for assurance after your self-assessment, you will have already completed the first step.

Buy PQASSO self-assessment

Buying PQASSO self-assessment for your organisation gives you access to our online toolkit which provides an efficient way to record and manage your PQASSO implementation. This allows you to:

  • record the results of your initial and detailed assessments of each quality area
  • see your organisation’s self-assessment dashboard and manage the progress you are making in addressing each quality area
  • upload documents as evidence against indicators and create an evidence library of documents
  • use the same source of evidence for more than one indicator, where appropriate
  • create and manage actions for indicators, including generating an overall action plan.

The online toolkit is available to use in English or in Welsh.

Your subscription to the online toolkit lasts for three years. The price is dependent on number of FTE staff. Members of NCVO and WCVA benefit from a 10% discount.

Our new online tool brings a number of advantages over the hard copy workpack in that rather than having documents stored in different places, evidence can be uploaded and securely stored in the Cloud. However, the self-assessment toolkit is also available as a hard copy workpack.
