A code of conduct is an agreement between the charity and its board that sets out the standards of behaviour expected from trustees. New board members sign up to the code when they join.

For it to be effective the board must feel that the code of conduct comes from them, reflecting their concerns and expressing their wishes. You should take some time to write your own code of conduct, reflecting your organisational values.
