Trustees’ Week

Celebrating, supporting and inspiring trustees.

This year Trustees’ Week takes place from 4 to 8 November 2024.

For Trustees’ Week 2024, we’re focusing on trustee recruitment and retention.

It’s no secret that trustee recruitment is difficult. According to the Charity Commission’s Breath of Fresh Air report, anywhere between one in three and one in two charities have a trustee vacancy.

We know resilient charities help create stronger communities. Having full and active trustee boards is crucial to achieving this. Charities and voluntary organisations with trustee vacancies are missing out on important skills and knowledge.

This year we plan to address this issue in the following ways.

The Charity Commission’s recent research with trustees also offers useful insights into how trustees feel about their roles.

Inspire more people to become trustees

Charity trustee recruitment can be challenging. Having a clear and structured recruitment process will help you to:

  • find and appoint the right trustees
  • make the experience more engaging and inclusive
  • encourage others to become trustees.

Support existing trustees

Trustees who feel well supported and happy in their roles are more likely to stay in post.

Good governance and effective processes can help minimise stress and improve trustee retention. They can support your board by creating a shared vision, renewed purpose and ensuring that the charity makes the right strategic decisions.

Trustee networking events

The saying goes ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’. We know trustees from organisations of all sizes have lots to learn from each other.

Trustees from NCVO member organisations are invited to join us for two networking sessions during Trustees' Week. This is a chance to come together to:

  • share challenges
  • get a different perspective on issues
  • hear ideas and solutions.

6 November – book your place

9 November – book your place

Please note these events are for NCVO members only.
