Karl Wilding, Chief executive

Karl Wilding became chief executive of NCVO in 2019. Previously he was NCVO's director of public policy and volunteering, where he oversaw our advocacy work on behalf of charities, community groups, social enterprises and volunteering.

Karl started his career at NCVO in our research team and went on to lead our Almanac work, producing the authoritative source of information on the charity sector’s finances.

He has an extensive knowledge of charities and volunteering here and overseas. Prior to joining NCVO, Karl completed a PhD which looked at the history of the relationship between charities and the state.

Karl speaks and writes widely on issues facing the voluntary sector, including public trust, the role of modern charity, and the future of giving and social action.

He is a trustee of Communities 1st in St Albans and of the American charity Creating The Future. He was until recently a non-exec director at Charity Bank, and is an honorary visiting fellow at Cass Business School.

Susan Cordingley, Deputy chief executive

susan cordingleySusan is responsible for membership, our quality standards Trusted Charity and Investor in Volunteers, our practical support services including training and consultancy and our conferencing facilities. She is company secretary and supports NCVO’s governance, as well having responsibility for financial management and HR.

Susan is a chartered accountant and has an MBA from London Business School. She has considerable experience gained in senior management roles in both the charity and private sectors. She currently sits as an independent member on Oxfam GB’s Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and as director of Trustees Unlimited.

Megan Griffith Gray, Director of strategy and transformation

Megan is director of strategy and transformation at NCVO and is responsible for the organisation’s strategy, planning and reporting. She also leads the digital, marketing and technology functions.

Her diverse experience includes leading strategy development, service design, digital transformation, research and communications. She is currently leading a radical transformation of NCVO’s technology as well as development of a new strategy for NCVO. In addition to this, Megan is a trustee of Spitalfields Music and the Hackney Singers.

Sarah Vibert, Director of public policy and volunteering

Sarah is the director of public policy and volunteering at NCVO and is responsible for policy, communication, volunteering development and research. 

Sarah has held a number of leadership roles in the voluntary sector, most recently as chief executive of the umbrella charity, The Neurological Alliance. Sarah also spent time in her senior management roles at Epilepsy Society and In Kind Direct. She started her career in local government management, including working for the The Mayor of London

Sarah is a trustee of National Voices, the health sector charity coalition, reflecting her strong interest in charity collaboration. She also volunteers as a committee member of her son's primary school Parent Teacher Association. 

Arabella Shewry, Executive assistant to chief executive and chair 

Arabella is executive assistant to Karl Wilding, Chief Executive, and Anne Heal, interim Chair. Her role includes diary management, providing admin support and acting as first point of contact for Karl and Anne. Arabella also project manages NCVO's diversity and inclusion project.

She has particular interest in:

                • diversity and inclusion
                • workplace culture
                • campaigning and activism
                • feminism
                • the women's network which Arabella co-chairs.

David Hauk, Personal assistant to deputy chief executive

David is personal assistant to Susan Cordingley, deputy chief executive, and provides day to day administrative support across the various aspects of her role and manages her diary. He is also responsible for supporting NCVO’s trustee board and committees assisting Susan in her role as company secretary.

He has particular interest in:

                • governance of trustee boards
                • meetings and events management
                • elections administration
                • production on company reports.
