Tommy Hyun

Governance and nominations committee member

Tommy is Director of Governance (Company Secretary) at St John Ambulance. He is also the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian for the charity.

Tommy has a passion for public service, ensuring organisations focus on the public interest and social impacts. He has developed a 20 year career across different types of organisations in the public sector, not for profit sector and currently the voluntary sector. Having begun his career as an External Auditor with the Audit Commission (regulator), he worked in Internal Audit in local government (Southend on Sea Borough Council and Westminster City Council), the Law Society (membership body and regulator) and St John Ambulance (charity), until he broadened his leadership to an executive role in Governance at St John Ambulance. He is qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CIPFA), Chartered Auditor (CIIA) and is an Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist (ACFS).

Outside of his Executive role, Tommy volunteers as an Independent Committee member of the Audit Committee at Ealing Borough Council and has recently joined the Governance and Nominations Committee at the NCVO. Tommy helped as an operational volunteer for St John Ambulance during the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Tommy is passionate about helping organisations develop more inclusive cultures, which is core to his involvement as both a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian and an active member of the EDI Steering Group in St John Ambulance.
