Hope & May

Hope and May is a leading data protection service provider to the charity sector, with a focus on the sector's unique needs.

About Hope & May

Hope and May has successfully worked with hundreds of charitable organisations, providing tailored solutions and support. Their team of data protection practitioners deliver prompt, expert support and guidance, ensuring compliance with data protection obligations are possible for every organisation.

Hope & May's services

The four main services Hope and May provides include the following:

Audit Service

A full data protection audit involves considering an organisation's data processing activities, including how data is gathered, processed, stored and deleted. It also includes identifying the purposes of data processing and the legal grounds for doing so.

This will involve reviewing existing policies and procedures, conducting a comprehensive data assessment, document and GAP analysis, roadmap, risk assessment, a post-audit meeting, and document drafting if needed.

DPO (Data Protection Officer) Representation Service

This service includes public facing external DPO representation, scheduled policy maintenance, dealing with subject access requests, data breach and incident management, regulatory monitoring, legal interpretation, data mapping review, third-party (vendor) oversight, comprehensive staff training, information updates, and DPIA oversight.

Hope and May would be documented as your DPO with the ICO.

Helpline Service

This service provides on-demand documented access to expert advice and guidance or where required, a second opinion. It includes regular news bulletins to keep you updated on current guidance and changes to the law. (This service is not designed for policy development or certain specialised requirements).

Training and V-Learning

  • We regularly deliver two different online courses on behalf of NCVO, which you can find in the training portal. These courses offer in depth training to those responsible within the charity for data protection.
  • We also offer our V-Learning service which ensures everyone in your organisation is cost effectively trained when required (Please note the ICO expects everyone who has access to personal data in the course of their daily duties to be trained). Training sessions are tailored to an organisation's needs, ensuring all of your staff are trained regularly with administrative functionality to meet the ICO compliance requirements.

Feedback from customers

The GDPR support provided by Mark and the team at Hope and May has been exceptional. The experience and ongoing guidance provided has enabled us to move the business forward with confidence.

Sarah Wilkinson, COO at Keylu

As a research and evaluation agency we deal in some highly sensitive data collection sets and the integrity of our processes and systems is paramount. Mark has always delivered … I have no qualms about strongly recommending Hope & May.

Brian Warren, COO at Dartington Service Design Lab

I had never attended such a well structured and insightful training before … I'm going to bring back what I have learned to my charity, and hopefully raise our standards around data protection and GDPR. I couldn't be more grateful.
