Following the death of Nicholas Hinton, NCVO decided to establish an annual lecture to mark his memory and to take forward the many issues that he championed during his life.
Nicholas Hinton had a long history of working in the voluntary sector, both generally and with individual voluntary organisations, notably Save the Children Fund and NACRO. He was also a Director of NCVO. His impact on the sector was profound and lasting and he was widely respected both in the UK and internationally.
The annual Nicholas Hinton lecture is the sector’s way of ensuring that his critical contribution is remembered.
The lecture will return in 2024.
2019’s lecture was delivered by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.
2018’s lecture ‘Corbyn's Labour, charities and volunteering: what should the left's approach look like?’ was given by Owen Jones.
2017's lecture 'Connection, not coexistence: Building bridges between communities' was given by The Rt Hon the Baroness Warsi.
Antony Jenkins gave the 2016 lecture on the theme of 'White Heat: why technology changes everything'
The Rt Hon Sir John Major KG CH gave the 2015 lecture on the theme of 'a nation at ease with itself'.
Andrew Phillips (Lord Phillips of Sudbury) gave the 2014 lecture on the theme of 'Whither the Common Good? Community Life and Civic Identity in Flux'.
