Trustees' Week

Trustees’ Week is an annual event showcasing the great work of the 700,000 volunteer charity trustees who run charities in England and Wales. As an organising partner NCVO is delighted to play a role in supporting the campaign.

Trustees are volunteers who take on ultimate legal, strategic and oversight responsibility for an organisation’s work. They play a vital leadership role in any charity.

Trustees’ Week 2019

Trustees’ Week 2019 took place on 4-9 November. It's an opportunity to highlight the excellent work of trustees, support boards to improve governance, and encourage new people to consider trusteeship and volunteering opportunities.

During the week, NCVO released new guidance and offered free access to all governance resources and discounts on products and training.

Governance tools and resources

At NCVO we are committed to supporting organisations of all sizes to implement the Charity Governance Code. Our board tools and resources map against the code’s recommended practice. This means that wherever the code suggests your should have a document or process in place, we have the templates, guidance or online training which will help you implement this.

We also have two diagnostic tools to help you understand where your charity’s gaps are and how you can improve your governance. These include our governance wheel tool which links directly to the code and our guidance for micro organisations using the code.

The majority of these recourses are available to NCVO members. During Trustees’ Week we make these free for all.

New individual trustee review tool

Governance code encourages boards to review their collective performance and the contribution of individual trustees. We have published a new tool and guidance on how trustees can approach this, which includes advice on the different approaches and a template for a self-evaluation.

Face-to-face training

Our governance courses include:

Trusted Charity

Trusted Charity is a straightforward process designed to help you run your organisation more effectively and efficiently. It sets out what organisations need to have in place to ensure sound governance practices, proper financial and risk management systems, and a reliable system for measuring outcomes.

Across the year we offer a whole range of support to trustees. This includes:

    • Our Knowhow resources, tools and guidance: this includes online training and practical templates to support with effective governance.
    • Sign up for our email updates and we will email you the latest news and support for trustees, including Dan Francis’ monthly governance round-up.
