Crisis management

Crisis management is the process by which organisations deal with unexpected and potentially disruptive events which might harm the organisation, its stakeholders, or the general public. Crisis management is a huge topic and history is littered with examples where it hasn’t been done well, so what is the secret of success? Sadly, there is no simple answer but, in our experience, thinking about it in advance is a great place to start and this course has been designed to prepare you for the full range of actions.

By the end of the day you will have:

  • considered the potential crises that your organisation needs to prepare for
  • started a crisis management audit to get crisis-ready
  • developed the contents of your crisis management plan
  • identified who needs to be involved in managing the crisis if one occurs
  • a greater understanding of the concepts of crisis management and the links with strategic thinking, risk management and governance.

Who should attend?

The course will support participants to develop a generic crisis management plan with standard operating procedures for their organisation and is aimed at decision-makers such as senior leaders, CEOs, chairs and trustees.

Who runs it?

Howard Exton Smith has over 20 years’ experience as a consultant, facilitator and coach specialising in personal and organisational development, governance and performance improvement.

His sessions are practical, giving participants exercises to bring out certain issues rather than just telling them. His background in general management and as a former chair and trustee, enables him to demystify the concepts, build your confidence and encourage you to form an effective team that can deal with anything.
