Already powerful select committees have become even more influential since reforms to the way parliament works. This course draws on NCVO’s experience of working with select committees and preparing senior staff to give oral evidence.

The course will explain how:

  • select committees have changed since reforms to the House of Commons
  • select committee chairs are asserting their influence
  • newly emboldened committees are changing the way parliament works.

Outcomes

  • received tips on how to write an effective submission that will make your evidence count
  • discussed how to prepare colleagues for giving oral evidence, including dealing with hostile questioning
  • practiced giving oral evidence, thinking about what type of questions committees ask, and how to answer them.
