NCVO quality standards

Our quality standards offer organisations, both in and outside the voluntary sector, an externally-verified seal of approval, which publicly demonstrates your organisation’s commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement.

As a charity, civil sector, or volunteer-involving organisation, obtaining recognition through independent assessment that your organisation is fit for purpose. You will be able to demonstrate to commissioners, funders, beneficiaries and other stakeholders that you are delivering quality services and working to a recognised framework of assurance.

Whether your organisation is big or small, if you are looking for a quality mark that can be applied to all types of organisation or are looking for something more specialised, we have a standard to suit you.

Approved Provider Standard (APS)

The Approved Provider Standard (APS) is the national quality standard designed specifically for mentoring and befriending projects. It is applicable to projects delivered locally, regionally or nationally.

Achieving APS involves a self-assessment, where a project demonstrates that it meets the 10 requirements of the standard, followed by an assessment visit.

Investing in Volunteers (IiV)

IiV is an opportunity for volunteer-involving organisations to benchmark the quality of their volunteer management programme. IiV allows organisations to demonstrate and improve their work with volunteers, enhance their reputation and raise their profile. Assurance involves a six-step process that includes both self-assessment and external verification (site visits). It normally takes a maximum of 12 months.

PQASSO self-assessment and award

PQASSO is a quality assurance system appropriate for all voluntary organisations and social enterprises, no matter how large or small.

PQASSO sets out what organisations need to have in place to be legally and financially compliant and to ensure robust:

  • governance practices
  • financial and risk management procedures
  • systems for measuring outcomes.

It also sets out a path to continuous improvement for those starting off.
