Trusted Charity Transfer

This page has more information on what the Trusted Charity transfer means for you.

NCVO has transferred the delivery of the Trusted Charity standard to a new provider - The Growth Company.

Find out more about Trusted Charity by:

The Growth Company has no plans to significantly change the standard, pricing structure or discount we offer NCVO and WCVA members.

The Trusted Charity standard will no longer hold UKAS accreditation as an awarding body.

This will not take away from the rigorous and robust way Trusted Charity Mark assessments are carried out.

NCVO will work with The Growth Company to make sure the standard continues to meet the sector’s needs.

If you hold a Trusted Charity Mark or want to renew

You will continue to hold your Trusted Charity Mark award for three years, including if it extends past March 2022.

We will continue to explain on this website how achieving the Trusted Charity Mark improves and demonstrates quality so this can be viewed by funders and other stakeholders.

We are contacting all organisations who hold the Trusted Charity Mark. We will ask if we can share your details with The Growth Company. The details we will ask you to share are:

  • contact details
  • the date the Mark was gained
  • the details from your self-assessment but not the evidence loaded.

You will be able to opt out if you wish. If you haven’t heard from us please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The list of organisations holding the Trusted Charity Mark will be transferred to the Growth Company website. We will signpost to this from our website.

We will not share any evidence you have loaded into our online assessment tool. This data will be deleted at the end of March 2022.

If you would like to renew your award with The Growth Company and haven’t heard from us or them, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Any organisation renewing their award will receive a 15% discount on the overall fee.

If you are working towards the Trusted Charity Mark

We are contacting all organisations who are working towards the Trusted Charity Mark to ask if we can share your details with The Growth Company. You will complete the work with your current assessor through NCVO before we transfer you to the Growth Company. The details we will ask you to share are:

  • contact details
  • the date the Mark was gained
  • the details from your self-assessment but not the evidence loaded.

You will be able to opt out if you wish. If you haven’t heard from us, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If you use the self-assessment tool

The Trusted Charity Online self-assessment tool will remain available to existing users through NCVO until 31 March 2022.

  • If your subscription extends past 31 March 2022, you will receive a partial refund.
  • If your subscription expires between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022, we will extend it until 31 March 2022 at no further charge.

Any data loaded into our online assessment tool will be deleted at the end of March 2022. This will not be passed over to the Growth Company.

If you have completed the Trusted Charity online self-assessment tool

Once you have given your details to the Growth Company, you will then move the assessor part of the process with them.

You will need to complete the assessor part of the process by 31 March 2022. This is because your self-assessment evidence is stored in our self-assessment tool and the data held there will be deleted at that point.

We will continue to allow assessors access to this evidence until 31 March 2022.

If you are already working with an assessor to achieve the Trusted Charity Mark

We would suggest that you complete this process with your NCVO assessor by the deadline previously set of 31 January 2022.

We will not share any evidence you have loaded into our online assessment tool. This data will be deleted at the end of March 2022.

If your Trusted Charity assessment process is on hold

We will continue to support you to complete the Trusted Charity Mark process. You will need to re-start the process by 1 August 2021 and complete it by 31 January 2022.

There are many benefits of continuing with the assessment process. Any data loaded into our online assessment tool will be deleted at the end of March 2022 and not passed over to the Growth Company.

The Growth Company would like to make the standard available for voluntary organisations that are not registered charities, but this is not confirmed yet.

The Growth Company has confirmed that the standard will be offered in England, Ireland and Wales.

WCVA is reviewing Trusted Charity in Wales and will be seeking the sector's views on how to take it forward. They will continue to work with NCVO and the Growth Company to support the transition.

The Growth Company is considering if they can offer the product in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

If you want to buy the Trusted Charity online self-assessment tool

The Growth Company is setting up their online self assessment tool. Whilst this is being done, they are offering a 50% discount on the self assessment fee.

NCVO will receive a proportion of the income earned by the Growth Company.

Charity Essentials

Charity Essentials (formerly Trusted Charity Essentials) will remain available through NCVO.

Charity Essentials is a free online tool designed especially for charities, community and voluntary groups. It is a way to do a basic health check on how your organisation is performing, identifying strengths and areas for development.

Each question has a brief explanation to support your discussions – after identifying areas for development, you will be able to create an action plan to address them.

Charity Essentials can be used as a:

  • way to do a basic ‘health check’ on how your organisation is performing and achieving your mission
  • tool to engage everyone in your organisation in discussions about your work
  • way to engage a range of important stakeholders with your work.

Get started by visiting Charity Essentials where you can sign up and receive your own unique link for using the tool. You will then be able to review and update your results at any time using this link.
