Volunteering and coronavirus: How you can help

Trusted Charity questions and answers

Will the standard be available for other voluntary organisations that aren’t registered charities?

The Growth Company is keen to widen the group of organisations to which the standard is available and so will be proactively considering how the standard may be adapted and used by other voluntary organisations. Their first priority will be to establish the service for the existing standard.

They are then keen to engage with other voluntary organisations to understand how the scope of the standard could be expanded.

Will the standard be available outside of England?

The Growth Company has committed to providing the standard in Wales and Ireland which continues on from how NCVO has worked. WCVA is currently undertaking a review of Trusted Charity in Wales and will be inviting the sector to give their views on what is needed to support a sustainable quality assurance framework going forward.

WCVA will continue to work with NCVO and the Growth Company to support this transition. NCVO will be happy to facilitate introductions to our sister councils in Northern Ireland and Scotland for the Growth Company once a full agreement is reached.

Will pricing remain the same?

Yes, the Growth Company has no plans to change the pricing for the time being. NCVO members will continue to receive a discount in line with the current approach.

Will the standard remain the same?

The Growth Company has no plans to significantly change the standard. NCVO will work with the Growth Company to ensure the standard evolves to reflect the needs of the sector.

For instance, we have an additional module on partnership working which we have developed to level one. We have discussed with the Growth Company and this may be added in the future as an additional quality area.

I'm currently completing my self-assessment – should I complete this?

Yes, we are in discussions with the Growth Company but the likelihood is that when you have completed the self-assessment process, we would then pass, with your permission, the details over to the Growth Company. This would be to move you through to the next element of the process to invoice you and provide you with an assessor to review the evidence loaded and meet with you and other staff and volunteers.

Part of our agreement with the Growth Company would allow the assessor to access the evidence you have loaded onto NCVO’s system. The assessor process would need to be completed by March 2022 as after that the NCVO system will be de-commissioned and the data held there deleted.

I haven't yet started my self-assessment – what should I do?

We would suggest that you wait until the agreement is finalised with the Growth Company and they have set their system up so you can start your journey fully with them. They anticipate that this will be available by June 2021.

Will my details be transferred to the Growth Company?

Assuming we reach a full agreement, we will ask all those holding the standard or working towards it, either in the self-assessment or assessor stage, if we can share their details and invite them to opt-out if they do not wish their details to be shared.

It is worth noting that the names of the organisations holding the accreditation are publicly available on our website.
