Vacancy Details

Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust is in the development stage of a major HLF project which will see the charity experiencing significan growth over the next few years. The existing Treasurer wishes to stand down in 2018 and the Trust is looking for an experienced Treasurer who can help us move forward at this exciting time.

 Successful completion of the HLF development project will result in the Trust managing an active heritage and community facility. This will involve a transition from a wholly voluntary organisation to the engagement of staff to manage many of the daily activities of the facility.

The role of the Treasurer is to monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the board of trustees at regular intervals on its state of financial health both in line with best practice, and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements.  The main responsibilities include:

  • overseeing and presenting budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Trust Board;
  • leading in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements;
  • leading in the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost-management and investment of any cash resources;
  • being a member of the executive standing committee;
  • providing oversight of staff responsible for the financial activities of the organisation, including financial records, gift aid etc;
  • advising on the commercial implications of all the activities;
  • monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity;
  • oversight of the implementation of and monitoring specific financial controls;
  • advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan;
  • overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process and insurance arrangements;
  • acting as counter signatory on payments and important applications to funders;
  • board-level liaison with the External Examiner/Auditor and related Board representations;

Initially, the role will be very “hands on” and may include the maintenance of the basic accounting records which consist of an excel workbook.  During 2018 the intention is to migrate onto a standard accounting system maintained by a paid book-keeper.
