Recommendations on Charity Regulation - NCVO Response
- Thursday, 05 September 2013 12:03
Commenting on the government’s response to reports by Lord Hodgson and the Public Accounts Select Committee on charity regulation, Sir Stuart Etherington, chief executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, said:
‘This response reflects broadly thoughtful and sensible positions from government on charity regulation.
‘We remain of the view that setting some high-level principles on public benefit in statute would be helpful. While this is clearly not something the government plan to do immediately, it is pleasing to see that they remain open to making such a move in the future.
‘It is reassuring that there are no plans to allow automatic payment of trustees. This is a bad idea that the sector has rightly rejected as being detrimental to public trust.’
