Two new trustees appointed to NCVO board

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has appointed two new trustees to its board.

Jake Ferguson is chief executive at Hackney CVS, one of the biggest local infrastructure and sector support agencies in London, and which leads a number of voluntary sector delivery partnerships and a range of sector networks. He is a member of the Violence Reduction Unit Partnership Reference Group, which advises the mayor of London about serious youth violence and has worked to support the government’s approach on youth unemployment. He is a member of NCVO’s Rebalancing the Relationship project steering group and chair of the London CVS Directors Network.

Kiran Kaur is the co-founder and chief executive of GirlDreamer – an award-winning non-profit empowerment platform for millennial and generation Z women of colour, with projects including providing training programmes to support women of colour into social entrepreneurship. She is a consultant, supporting organisations to bridge the gap between communities and companies, increasing representation and building online brand presence for those in the social sector. Kiran was a keynote speaker at the most recent NCVO Trustee Conference.

Jake and Kiran were appointed to the board by its existing trustees for their expertise and leadership in local voluntary sector support and in diversity and inclusion. NCVO’s board consists of a mix of trustees, some of whom are elected by NCVO’s members and some who are appointed by the board for the expertise and experience that they bring. Jake and Kiran will attend their first board meeting next month. The appointments, like all NCVO trustee positions, are for an initial three-year term, which can be renewed once.

Chair recruitment continues

These appointments come as NCVO continues recruitment for a new chair for its trustee board. This new chair will play a crucial role in influencing how NCVO translates its core purpose, values and ambitions into action. The application process is being managed by executive search consultancy firm Green Park. The deadline for applications is Monday 16 March 2020.

Full details about the chair of trustees role are available from the Green Park website.
