Commenting on the Prime Minister’s speech to the CBI, Ben Kernighan, deputy chief executive of NCVO, said:
"Equality Impact Assessments were valued by many in the sector as a safeguard against wrongful and unfair decisions."
"While the obligation to carry them out ended two years ago, some may worry that this announcement indicates equality duties are no longer a priority in government. But the principles of the Equality Act rightly continue to apply to government decision-making, and public bodies must still demonstrate that they have given them proper consideration. The Equality Act gives protection to disadvantaged and vulnerable people. Speedier decisions must not come at the cost of further marginalising those for whom equalities legislation is most valuable."
