The radio station supporting and campaigning for refugees

Refugee Radio supports refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants. It runs community projects targeting mental health, isolation and social exclusion. They use radio and music to give a voice to those who do not have one.

They offer many services including a weekly support group, advice and casework support, cultural events, book publishing. Other projects they run include the Resilience project for those with PSTD and Refugee Desert Island Discs to enable them to tell their own stories to their new communities. They are supported by a team of refugee volunteers.

Impact: using the Short Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being monitoring scale, they established at a baseline that refugees in their area were well below the national average. After taking part in their project, 60% had increased to “average” and a further 30% had increased to “above average”.
