The postal workers delivering care with their letters - and tackling loneliness

Call&Check is a scheme launched by the Jersey Post Office in which postal workers check on the welfare of more elderly or vulnerable people and pass on any concerns to the individual’s contacts and support network. The government announced in 2018 it was taking up the model to use as part of its loneliness strategy.

The government announced pilot projects in Liverpool, New Malden and Whitby with the Royal Mail partnering with Age UK in Liverpool, Staywell charity in Kingston and North Yorkshire County Council's community team.

The Call & Check service began in Jersey on the Channel Islands four years ago.

It has been featured on World Hacks and PM and on ITV.
