Breaking the cycle of youth violence through emergency room intervention

Redthread runs a Youth Violence Intervention Programme project based in A&E departments in London. It embeds specialist youth workers in the emergency departments of major trauma centres to break the cycle of violence.

Any young person who attends one of these hospitals having been the victim of serious youth violence is met by a member of the Redthread team. They work with young people at what they call 'the teachable moment' - when fear, isolation and considering the potential consequences of serious injury makes them more open to help. The youth workers are there to support the young people to take steps to change their lives.

Redthread also run KAOS (King’s Adolescent Outreach Service) - a new, unique project to improve the care of adolescents in hospital and THE WELL CENTRE - a drop-in youth health hub for young people 13-20 with access to GPs and counsellors.
